Mindfulness training is a powerful scientifically-based intervention which can help us to calm our minds, be more fully present to the moment, and optimise our wellbeing. The combination of ancient meditation skills in a non-religious format and modern psychology offers ways of reducing stress, improving relationships, and enhancing decision-making abilities and creativity. Through a better understanding of how our mind works, and greater awareness of ourself and others, the practice of mindfulness promotes greater resilience and engagement with life, and can help to develop increased self-confidence and energy.

The Mindfulness for Wellbeing course is an effective way of learning about mindfulness and applying these skills, and has the potential of transforming the way you relate to yourself and life. We also occasionally offer a day-long Introductory Workshop Mindfulness for Wellbeing. If you wish to explore mindfulness in greater depth, you might be interested in taking part in the
8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)/Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course. You can also take this course after completing the Mindfulness for Wellbeing programme.

Course Structure and Content

The Mindfulness for Wellbeing course is primarily an educational programme, supported by simple mindfulness exercises. The group consists of max. 16 participants, and meets for 8 weekly sessions. You are encouraged to practice the exercises at home with additional reading from the course book. It is strongly advised to attend a minimum of 6, and preferably all classes. Please note that making changes in your life can be challenging.

  • 8 Weekly Classes - 1.5 hour sessions, with training in mindfulness exercises, discussions and presentations on the underlying theory and science.
  • Reading - You are invited to read the relevant chapter each week from the course book “Mindfulness: A practical guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World”, by Prof. Mark Williams and Danny Penman.
  • Home Practice - Approximately 20 minutes mindfulness exercises per day, guided by the CD which accompanies the course book.
  • Teacher Support - Whenever you feel the need for extra support in between classes, you can contact me by phone or email.
  • Course Themes - The driven Doing mind versus the Being mind; Awareness of our thoughts, feelings and bodies; Dealing with difficulties; Living in the moment; Rebalancing life; Applying what we've learned, etc.
  • Optional Day Retreat - You can choose to enhance your learning by taking part in a silent day retreat in the Somerset countryside, practicing different meditations together. You can book this whilst you are on the course.

Who is the Course For?
Whilst this course uses relatively short mindfulness exercises, it nevertheless offers an effective way into learning about mindfulness. It is suited for:
  • People who are new to Mindfulness, looking for an entry-level course to alleviate stress and enhance wellbeing for work, home and health.
  • People who have completed an 8-week MBSR/MBCT course, who would like to refresh their practice and learn more about the science and psychology behind mindfulness.
  • Organisations – This course can be adapted to your workplace, please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Required Reading
We use “Mindfulness: a Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World”, by Prof. Mark Williams and Danny Penman as course book.
This very accessible and user-friendly book is accompanied by a CD with guided mindfulness exercises which we use as home practice for the course. The book will be sent to you before the start of the course, to enable you to read the first 4 chapters (66 pp) in preparation for the course.

Bookings which are cancelled up to 2 weeks prior to the course will be refunded minus a £35 booking fee. Cancellations within 2 weeks before the course starts cannot be refunded, unless the place is filled. In that case the booking will be refunded minus a £35 booking fee.
